Reducing Plastic Waste in Canada: through procurement
​SPL is proud to have supported the EU-Canada project in 2022/23 'Using procurement to reduce plastic waste', in conjunction with the European Office for Economic Policy and Regional Development, Circular Innovation Council and Mervyn Jones of Sustainable Global Resources.
Development and trialing of training materials.
​In support of the ongoing process towards a Circular Economy training materials were developed in two modules:
  1. Circular Economy, procurement and plastics.
  2. Specifying circular outcomes - the procurement toolbox.
The training, delivered by the Council and Mervyn, presented the resource pack developed by SPL to help potential trainers cascade good practice.
This focused on the need to set clear ambitions, consider alternatives to the norm and start early, while collaboration is key to success.
The materials drew examples from, for example, the City of Toronto, other Canada examples, the Plastic Action Centre, the EU and UK.
